What this is
IceCreamAtlas is a free directory of ice cream shops in the United States, organised by state and city. Every listing has an address; most have a phone number, and where a business publishes its hours or services we show those too. Listings come from open data and from the businesses themselves, who can correct their card at any time — about the directory. Nothing on the lists is paid placement.
Pick a state above, or use the “near me” button to jump to the ice cream shops closest to you. City pages show the full list with a map; state pages collect smaller towns that have a single ice cream shop.

Common questions
What is the difference between ice cream, gelato and frozen custard?
Ice cream is churned with a good deal of air and a higher share of cream. Gelato is churned slowly with less air and usually served a little warmer, so the flavor feels denser. Frozen custard is made with egg yolks, which gives it a thick, smooth texture.
Is soft serve the same as ice cream?
Soft serve is made from a similar mix, but it is drawn fresh from a machine at a warmer temperature with more air, which makes it lighter and creamier. It is served straight from the machine rather than scooped from a tub.
Can I find dairy-free or vegan ice cream?
Many shops now carry at least a few plant-based flavors or sorbets. Ask the shop what the flavors are made from and how they are scooped, and call ahead if you have an allergy.
Do ice cream shops take orders for cakes or parties?
Some shops make ice cream cakes or sell tubs to take home for a party. Call the shop a few days ahead to ask what it offers and how much notice it needs.
Are ice cream shops open all year?
Not always. Some seasonal stands close in the colder months, and many shops keep shorter hours outside summer. Check the shop's posted hours or call to confirm before you go.
